Transocean Renews Contract with CapRock

Offshore driller inks deal for satellite communications

HOUSTON - April 10, 2007

Transocean has reentered into a long-term agreement with CapRock Communications to ensure that it continues receiving mission-critical broadband communications for its drilling rigs located in the Gulf of Mexico.

For more than a decade, CapRock has delivered reliable satellite-based communications to Transocean’s mobile offshore drilling units around the world, including the Gulf of Mexico, South America and West Africa. And just as it promised on day one, CapRock remains dedicated to providing unmatched service and responsiveness. Under the terms of the renewal, CapRock will continue to provide broadband Internet, Voice over IP (VoIP) and secure access to the company’s corporate network.

Offshore energy operations commonly depend on state-of-the-art equipment, integrated systems and drilling tools that provide more efficient drilling capabilities. These onboard drilling systems can be monitored by oilfield products and service company experts at onshore service centers that can remotely diagnose and troubleshoot potential problems.
To remotely monitor the systems, experts depend on a communications link to transfer data and images between the remote rig site and the service center. If the communications link were to become temporarily disabled or encounter a problem, experts would be unable to monitor the status of the onboard systems and address potential issues. That could result in equipment failure and downtime.

With more than 25 years of experience serving the needs of the offshore energy industry, CapRock understands how essential reliable communications are to operational efficiency and is committed to the uncompromising transmission of customers’ data.

“CapRock firmly believes that when critical communications are on the line, no compromise is acceptable,” said CapRock CEO Peter Shaper. “Transocean’s decision to renew its agreement with us is a testament to the quality of service that we provide and we look forward to continuing to deliver on our commitment to providing world-class communications that they can count on.”
