As competition continues to escalate within the offshore energy industry, major players often differentiate themselves by offering improved and innovative services to customers. For Brazil-based NorSkan Offshore, a leading offshore supply vessel company, delivering exceptional quality and responsiveness to its customers is its top priority. To further build upon its commitment and to improve the overall performance and efficiency of its fleet, NorSkan recently entered into a multi-year agreement with CapRock Communications of Brazil to receive reliable, turnkey satellite communications services.
While communications providers are a dime a dozen, reliable providers are few and far between. In an effort to ensure the communication solution it deployed would deliver the same level of quality and dependability it is known for, NorSkan conducted in-depth research by speaking with fleet owners that use both CapRock and competing services.
“When we made the decision to incorporate always-on satellite communications aboard our fleet, we knew that we wanted a provider as dedicated to reliability as we are,” said NorSkan President Hans Falnes Ellingsen. “After talking with a variety of companies that use VSAT on their fleets, we were pleased with the feedback we received from CapRock customers and knew they’d be the best fit for us.”
CapRock has more than 25 years of experience providing uncompromising communications to harsh and remote locations, both onshore and off. This experience allows CapRock to evaluate the unique requirements of customers such as NorSkan, and design solutions tailored to their immediate needs that are also flexible enough to scale and adapt as needed. NorSkan will use CapRock’s satellite solutions to support a variety of operational initiatives such as increasing safety measures for customers and employees, improving logistics and response times and enhancing crew morale. Under the terms of the agreement, CapRock will use its global network infrastructure to deliver communications services out of its Brazilian teleport while interconnecting with NorSkan’s corporate headquarters. Additionally, CapRock will provide local service and support from one of its 10 international support centers located in Macaé, Brazil. NorSkan’s fleet of Anchor Handling Tug Supply (AHTS) vessels, primarily located in Campos Basin, Vitoria Basin and Northeastern Brazil, will use broadband service to support applications such as real-time streaming video, e-mail, Internet access and telephone service.
Personnel onboard one of the vessels recently equipped with CapRock’s satellite solution are already benefiting from its service flexibility. Immediately after the VSAT was deployed and commissioned, CapRock was asked to increase the bandwidth to support additional connectivity requirements for remotely operated vehicle (ROV) streaming video.
“CapRock is committed to providing reliable communications that support customers’ evolving operational requirements, and to setting the standard for service in the offshore communications sector,” said Doug Tutt, director of CapRock’s South America operations. “We are pleased that NorSkan selected CapRock for its communications needs and look forward to doing our part to support its mission of delivering exceptional quality and responsiveness.”
