CapRock Communications Expands its Presence in Asia Pacific

Global satellite communications leader opens new Singapore office

HOUSTON, TEXAS - February 24, 2009

CapRock Communications, a global provider of satellite communications to remote environments, has further expanded its presence in Asia Pacific by opening a new regional office in Singapore. The expansion increases CapRock’s capability to provide systems integration (SI) services and turnkey satellite communication solutions to energy, maritime and mining clients operating in the region.

“CapRock’s clients are continuing to strengthen their operations in Asia,” said CapRock Vice President and General Manager, Southeast Asia, Ian Ford. “Singapore in particular is a growing focus for many of our customers as it is one of the busiest ports in the region and its shipyards house many of the new drilling rigs being built. The new office positions CapRock to be aligned more closely with our customers as we deliver additional services and support to them.”

The new office builds upon CapRock’s existing activities in the region. Today CapRock owns and operates an international teleport and support center in Jakarta, Indonesia that serves the Far East, Asia and Pacific Basin. CapRock also operates a co-location and support center in Perth, Australia, which the company opened in 2007 based on client demand.

To lead the Singapore office, CapRock has appointed Charlie Ransford as regional business development manager. Ransford brings more than 20 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, most recently serving as channel development director for a leading IP satellite equipment and solutions provider. He also has held key positions in product management & development and marketing with multiple telecom companies.

With Ransford’s support, CapRock will continue to penetrate the maritime and offshore oil and gas markets, providing drilling contractors, operators and service companies with CapRock’s managed VSAT services that provide Voice over IP (VoIP), corporate networking, broadband Internet and real-time video capabilities. Additionally, CapRock will focus on further delivering SI services to the drilling rigs and vessels under construction including their requirements for systems design, integration and commissioning of turnkey information and communication networks.

“Over the last few years, we have seen a significant increase in energy and mining investment in Asia,” continued Ford. “The number of contracted rigs in the region continues to increase. At the same time, there is continued strong investment in the resources sector, specifically major outlays in both the exploration and expansion of existing sites. We are looking forward to further serving our customers in the region and providing reliable communications they can count on day in and day out.”
