CapRock Announces CommandAccess™, Industry’s First Military-Grade Commercial Satellite Subscription Service

Off-the-Shelf Communications Creates New Options for Field Deployed Government Agencies

FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA - November 30, 2009

CapRock Government Solutions announced today that it is in the final stages of development of its new commercial off-the-shelf communications service, CommandAccess™.  Designed for military and civilian agencies deployed in remote areas of operation, the new suite of pre-packaged and customized satellite communications services connects very small aperture terminals (VSATs) to the Internet, public switched telephone service, and secure government networks.  CommandAccess enables customers with certified portable and man-packable terminals to benefit from two-way broadband satellite communications at guaranteed speeds up to 1Mbps.  CapRock’s new offering is built from the ground up as a commercially available, yet military-grade network for voice, video and data communications.  CommandAccess will be offered in multiple frequency bands, including X, Ku and Ka.  Designed to augment the U.S. Government’s Wideband Global Satellite (WGS) program, CommandAccess enables customers to utilize existing remote field terminals, or approved commercial satellite equipment on the CapRock network.  The service will be available in several packages and data rates, each for a flat monthly fee on a per terminal basis.

“While the missions of our customers vary considerably across different government agencies, we repeatedly hear one consistent message;  deployed field personnel need better access to their chain of command to improve real-time situational awareness, intelligence gathering, and tactical decision making,” said CapRock Government Solutions EVP and General Manager, David Myers. “A reliable communications system is a critical lifeline for deployed units in theater.  CommandAccess is a revolutionary new product that addresses this need by combining the convenience of a commercially available subscription service with field proven military-grade communications.”

CapRock’s new offering is the first pre-packaged satellite subscription service designed from inception as a military-grade network.  CommandAccess will utilize capacity from the Skynet 5 fleet of military hardened geosynchronous communications satellites.  CapRock recently announced the acquisition of significant Skynet satellite capacity, which offers true military-grade features such as electromagnetic-pulse shielded satellites, built-in anti-jamming capabilities, configurable global and spot beam coverage, and MAC Level I and NSA type approved security certifications.  The satellite’s primary control center is located inside a nuclear hardened bunker adjacent to an active military installation and offers a degree of security and survivability not available from other commercial teleports.

CapRock is combining these unique military-grade capabilities with its own industry leading expertise in building and operating complete end-to-end commercial satellite communications.  Under development for nearly a year, CommandAccess builds on the success of CapRock’s existing service lines including SeaAccess™, a similar pre-packaged satellite communications service that supports maritime fleets worldwide, and its DR-Series of off-the-shelf disaster recovery solutions.  CommandAccess is in the final stages of engineering development, with live trials planned over the next several weeks.  The service is scheduled for official product launch in the first quarter of 2010.
